Introduction
The Science Education Department was established in the 2006-2007 academic year under the Faculty of Education at Fırat University in the province of Muş, and has continued its education and training within Muş Alparslan University since May 29, 2007. Students of the Science Education Department are entitled to receive a diploma and the title of Science Teacher upon completing their 4-year undergraduate education. Students are admitted to the Department of Science Education based on the results of the Student Selection and Placement Examination conducted throughout Turkey.
It is aimed that graduates of the Science Teaching Department possess the basic knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for the teaching profession, can follow the studies conducted in their field, base their lives on scientific processes, can access information and transform it into production, have high problem-solving skills, possess creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial qualities, can use different teaching methods and strategies in the teaching processes, know and apply measurement-evaluation approaches, have awareness of professional and ethical issues, can work as a team, and know and respect the common values of society, becoming qualified teachers. In this context, both professional and field knowledge, as well as general culture courses, have been included in the department's program to ensure the academic development of teacher candidates. In line with this purpose, the Department of Science Education aims to train science teachers through its 4-year undergraduate program, which is based on contemporary approaches to teacher training. In order to fulfill its mission and vision, the Department has bilateral agreements within the framework of the ERASMUS, FARABİ, and MEVLANA Student and Academic Exchange Programs.
The Department of Science Education is currently continuing its educational activities with 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant. Faculty members from the same department and different faculties also contribute to the teaching of courses related to their fields.
Our Mission
The mission of our department is to train science teachers who value ethical principles, think critically, and possess the creativity, scientific, artistic, cultural, technological, and pedagogical knowledge and confidence to successfully serve anywhere in the world. It also aims to educate graduate students with extensive knowledge in research and research methods in the field of science education and to conduct national and international level research that contributes to theory and practice in the field of science education.
Our Vision
The vision of our department is to continue and advance the training of qualified science teachers with high social awareness, who possess 21st-century skills, can conduct educational activities in national and international settings, effectively use technology, keep up with current knowledge in their field, apply what they have learned in learning environments, and act according to social, scientific, cultural, and ethical values. It is expected that graduates will become knowledgeable and competent educators and instructors, and that they will be trained to adapt to changing conditions and new developments throughout their professional lives, while also being able to lead these developments.
